CHIP for Initiation & Tyke – All head coaches of house league teams in divisions Initiation & Tyke (age 7 & below) must be certified under the Hockey Canada Initiation Program (CHIP) and be registered with OMHA.
Coach Stream or CHIP for Novice & Atom – All head coaches & assistant coaches of house league teams in the Novice & Atom divisions (age 8-10) must have a minimum of CHIP or Coach Stream certification and be registered with the OMHA. All head coaches of PD teams are preferred to have Development 1 certification.
Coach Stream for Peewee through to Midget – All head coaches & assistant coaches of house league teams in the divisions PW through Juv (age 11 & above) must have a minimum of NCCP Coach Stream certification and be registered with the OMHA. All head coaches of PD teams are preferred to have Development 1 certification.
The certification for Assistant Coaches & Assistant Trainers for house league & PD teams is the same as that of the Coach or Trainer. All certifications must be up to date for the coming season.
Each year the CAL holds OMHA clinics to train and certify coaches and coaching staff.
In all Clinics, space is limited, and enrollment is determined on a first come, first served basis. Pre-registration is required and full payment at the time of registration is required.
Clinics are also open to other clubs, coaches and coaching staff within the OMHA. All coaching clinics are sanctioned by the OMHA and provide the required accreditation.
OMHA Standard Expiry Date
August 31st every 3 years – All new coaches can attend clinics in the spring or fall where offered. All coaching staff who require renewal of their certifications' August 31 expiration date must take an OMHA Refresher Clinic in spring or fall, prior to the upcoming fall season in order to have their certification renewed.
Coach Certification Expiry
OMHA NCCP Coach Level, Coach Stream, Development I & Development 2 certification is valid for three seasons, including the season of issue. The Coach must attend a Coach Refresher clinic in the spring after the 3rd season. Go to the OMHA Website for more informations.
Respect in Sport, Speak Out or PRS Prevention Services Certification
Respect in Sport is required by all volunteers. It is now a stand-alone module, and is no longer included in the Coach Stream, CHIP or Trainers Clinics. Respect in Sport is an online certification, access portal can be found on the OMHA Website
