Registration for the 2020/21 Church Athletic League season is now open
The CAL is currently accepting registrations for our U18 (Midget), U15 (Bantam), U13 (Peewee), U11 (Atom), U9 (Novice), U8 (Minor Novice) and U7 (Initiation) house league hockey programs. Payment of fees is now required with your registration.
Our Board of Directors has been monitoring communications from Hockey Canada, the Ontario Hockey Federation, and the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, along with guidelines and directives from provincial and local public health agencies. While there is still plenty of uncertainty and our plans remain a work in progress, it is likely that the return to hockey will follow a phased-in approach this fall. Our programming will begin in late September or early October with practices only and then we will be permitted to progress to gameplay at the U11 level and above shortly after that. Our U9, U8 & U7 teams should have a traditional start – on-ice practices and development. We are awaiting more specific guidelines from our governing bodies before we can announce a specific season format. However, the Board is committed to maintaining traditional CAL programming for our members as best we can.
Based on the Province of Ontario’s Stage 3 Framework for Reopening our Province, we will be required to create cohorts of no more than 50 participants, and players may not play with or against players outside of their cohort. We can certainly create more than one cohort in each age division if demand is sufficient. However, teams in different cohorts may not play against each other. There are several implications associated with these restrictions:
1) Players may not play on more than one team. This means we will not be able to affiliate players to a team in a higher age group. Unfortunately, it also means that we will not be able to run our popular Rostered Select (Player Development) program this season. All other minor hockey organizations between Kingston and Toronto have also cancelled their RS programs this season. If the rules change and restrictions are lifted mid-season, we may consider running a shortened version of the program if we are permitted to do so. In the meantime, we are working on options to provide additional development opportunities for those who are interested.
2) Teams will not be permitted to travel or to participate in tournaments.
3) It may be necessary to limit enrollment in certain divisions to keep our cohorts within the allowable limit.
It is important to register your player(s) as soon as possible. Registering now will increase the likelihood you can secure a spot for your player and will also allow us to quickly figure out what our registration numbers will look like this year so that we can secure the needed ice time. There is currently no payment associated with registration, so you may register now with no risk or future obligation. The fees currently posted on the registration site are based on specific assumptions but they are preliminary and are subject to change. We will not finalize fees or request payment until the season structure is better known.
You can expect COVID-19 to significantly impact the processes everyone will be required to follow before they arrive at the rink, upon entering the facility, when they are in the facility and when they exit the facility. Protocols to be addressed include contact tracing and reporting, COVID-19 health checks prior to entry, access to dressing rooms, cleaning and sanitation of equipment and high-touch points at the rinks, physical distancing requirements for players and spectators, and others. We will continue to work closely with other local minor hockey organizations, the facilities management team at the City of Kingston, and KFL&A Public Health so that we all have a consistent and agreed upon approach to managing hockey for our kids this season.
Our organization depends on the efforts of volunteers to be successful, and we will need more volunteers than ever this year to help us facilitate the new measures we will be required to follow. Please consider offering some of your time and indicate in your registration if you can help out in any way.
We will post updates to the website as we get closer to the beginning of the season and things start to become clearer. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us by email at CAL Office and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Access to the Kingston Memorial Centre is currently restricted, and the CAL office is tentatively planning on opening on Monday August 31st.
The online registration is quick & easy. Don’t delay as spaces may be limited. Payment is now required. Credit option is now available. If selecting the Payment by Cheque option, cheques must be mailed to the CAL Office. You canot drop off your cheques at this time as access to the Kingston Memorial Centre is still "Restricted Entry".
Mail In Registration
While online registration is the preferred option, we understand that it may not work for everyone. If you are registering a player who played in a different organization last year, please contact us by email at CAL Office before attempting online registration and we will assist you with the process. For players who are new to hockey or for those who are not able to register online for any other reason, please download and print our Mail-In Registration Form, fill it out completely, and mail it to us at the address on the form. Access to the CAL office remains "Restricted" so paper registrations cannot be dropped off in person. Please understand there will be a delay in processing mailed registrations.
