What to Expect at the Rink

Prior to leaving for the rink, please review the Ontario government’s COVID-19 self-assessment tool located at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/. If you answer YES to any of the questions, do not go to the rink!  Stay home and stay safe!  Please notify your team’s COVID-19 Safety Monitor of the reason for your absence.

The City of Kingston will open the doors for participants 15 minutes prior to your allotted ice time.  You will not be allowed entry prior to this.  The doors will be locked at the beginning of your allotted ice time.  Parents/guardians entering with players cannot exit and re-enter the facility. No entry will be permitted after the ice time begins, with the exception of late player arrivals.

Kingston Transit or Desjardins ice pad users at the Invista Centre are required to enter and exit through the North access doors (main entrance).  Selkirk Lifestyle Homes or Swish ice pad users are required to enter and exit through the South access doors (rear entrance).

All players must arrive at the facility dressed for play. Sport/hockey bags can be used to carry equipment that players are not wearing. Skates, helmets, and gloves can be put on in the dressing room or on a bench outside of the dressing room doors.  Goalies are not required to wear their chest protector, goalie pants or pads when entering the arena. Players may not share equipment, so if you forget a piece of required equipment, you will not be permitted to play.  Please arrive prepared.

The City of Kingston has imposed strict capacity limits in the spectator stands at each rink.  As a result, only ONE family member/guardian per player will be permitted inside the building.  Exceptions will be granted for spouses/partners of team bench staff and the spouse/partner of the team’s COVID-19 Safety Monitor, as required. The COVID-19 Safety Monitors will be responsible for ensuring that capacity limits are not breached.  We do not wish to risk being shut down by the Public Health Unit for non-compliance.  We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Upon entrance into the arena you must be wearing a mask covering your mouth, nose, and chin, and practice physical distancing. You will wait, at least 6 feet apart, in a line to complete the self-screening verification and sign in at the City of Kingston’s sign in table.  Once this is completed, please sign in with your team’s COVID-19 Safety Monitor.

Players and spectators must then proceed directly into the rink. The player’s parent/guardian may accompany the player to the dressing room area if required to help with skates or other equipment. They must then go directly to the spectator stands.  Waiting in the lobby for the game or practice to begin is not permitted. Viewing may take place from the spectator stands ONLY. No viewing will be permitted from the lobby or the rink floor.  Only designated areas within the spectator stands can be occupied.  Do not cross over into undesignated areas. Follow all facility signs and instructions. Finally, please remember that it will be cold inside the rink. Please dress appropriately, even if it is warm outside.

No outside food or drinks are allowed in the arena (for players or spectators), except for water.  The concession stand is closed.  All water bottles must be labelled and there is ABSOLUTELY NO SHARING!

Following the completion of any ice times, players should proceed to their dressing rooms and remove their skates and helmets as quickly as possible.  Masks must be worn as soon as helmets are removed.

Teams are expected to leave their dressing room TOGETHER and bench staff will bring the players to their parents.

Please endeavour to vacate the facility within 10 minutes of the completion of your ice time and avoid gatherings in the hallways, foyers, or parking lots.
