HOUSE LEAGUE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
2011

GENERAL RULES

  1. Good sportsmanship is expected from all participants. MVP awards will be presented at the conclusion of each game. Each coach is asked to identify his own team's MVP.
  2. The team roster that is submitted with the tournament application will comprise eligible players. Any exception, for whatever reasons, must be brought to the attention of the tournament convenors.
  3. Coaches are reminded that any players added to the regular team roster must be on the Official Team Roster submitted to the Convenor
  4. All appropriate CHA and OMHA rules will apply.
  5. All games are scheduled to have three 10 minute stop time periods. To ensure the schedule is maintained the round robin games may be subject to curfew. Games where the goal difference is 5 goals will switch to running time. Stop time will re-commence if the margin is reduced to 4. Final games will have overtime. Sudden death 4 on 4 for 5 min will be played followed by 3 on 3 until a goal is scored.
  6. There will be no body checking permitted at any level.
  7. Ejected players are not permitted to return for the end of game ceremonies.
  8. Rosters. All teams are required to have 10 skaters and a goalie. Teams below this level may play but will forfeit the game regardless of the outcome.

FORMAT

  1. All teams will play a preliminary round of four games. Championship games will be played at the A, B, or C level in each division as numbers warrant. Eight team divisions will have A and B finals. Twelve team divisions will have A, B and C finals time and ice permitting. Total points will determine the final standings. The teams finishing first and second over all will play for the A Championship; third and fourth overall play for the B Championship; and, fifth and sixth overall play for the C Championship.
  2. A point system, as follows, will be used to determine the division standings:
    - Period tied...........1/2 point
    - Period won...........1 point
    - Game tied.............1 point
    - Game won............2 point
  3. The following sequence will be applied to teams that are tied for advancement to the finals:
  • Best record (in tournament points) in game against each other;
  • Most wins
  • Least losses
  • Most goals for
  • Least goals against
  • Least amount of penalty time
  • Coin toss

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

  1. Championship games will be played without curfew.
  2. If, at the end of regulation time, a championship game is tied, sudden death overtime will apply. Sudden death 4 on 4 for 5 min will be played following 3 on 3 until a goal is scored. The ice may be resurfaced after the first complete overtime period if required.

A WORD ABOUT PENALTIES

  1. In the case where 5 or 10 minute penalties are issued, in the spirit of fairness a player serving another's major penalty may be substituted once during the penalty time at the stoppage of play. Gross misconduct, match penalties or fighting penalties will result in suspension from tournament play.
  2. Any player who receives three minor penalties in a game will be suspended for the remainder of that game. Ejected players are not permitted to return for the end of game ceremonies.
  3. All decisions by the tournament convenors will be final and without appeal or protest.
