House League Hockey
The CAL offers non-body checking House League Hockey to Kingston and area youth. Our hockey programs are run by OMHA & Hockey Canada certified volunteer coaches and volunteer coaching staff. Many coaches and their staff are parents of a child on the team. Many coaches will advance through the age levels with a team, as their own children advance.
All teams are part of a church, geographical or organizational based club. The CAL club system allows for returning players, siblings & family members to be part of the same club, season after season. (Returning players are expected to register with the Association for which they played the previous season prior to the 3rd Friday of August. If more players are registered for a team by the deadline, than there is space the surplus player rules will prevail. CAL Hockey Handbook 1.1 2008)
The CAL runs teams in the following divisions based on age on December 31st:
- Initiation Program...... age 5 - 7
- Novice........................ age 7 – 8
- Atom........................... age 9 – 10
- Pee Wee.................... age 11 – 12
- Bantam....................... age 13 – 14
- Midget......................... age 15 – 17
CAL House League Hockey is open to all children regardless of: ability, experience, affiliation or residence. Space is limited.
Player Development (PD) Program
The goal of the Player Development (PD) Program is to provide additional opportunities for house league players to develop their skating and hockey skills. All players registered in the C.A.L. house league program and resident of the same area used for determining eligibility for "A" category hockey in District 6, Kingston Area, are eligible to participate in the PD Program in the division that their birth year permits (normally the same division as their house league registration).
Interested players must attend several skills assessment on-ice sessions in late September and early October. Players for 1 mixed team per division are selected based on demonstrated skills at the on-ice sessions. PD coaches are selected based on their advanced qualifications, experience with the program and positive feedback from players and parents.
The PD Program provides players with 2 ice time sessions per week in addition to the house league practices and games. There are weekly practices, 2 games per month (normally playing in the house league schedule against teams one age division older to provide skating and skill development opportunities) and up to 3 tournaments per season.
Full hockey gear is required at each practice and game including a mouthguard. No exceptions are allowed.
