About the CAL

·       The Church Athletic League of Kingston (CAL) is the premier hockey league for children and youth of Kingston, Ontario.

·       Our 1,100 players from age 5 to 17, ranks the CAL as the second largest, independent house league in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

·       CAL was founded in 1950 and is welcoming many 3rd generation players to family-friendly hockey.

·       All players have equal ice time, regardless of ability.

·       CAL house league hockey is "non-body checking".

Our Goal and Objectives

·       To help our players become good citizens.

·       To instil the mutual respect upheld by all religions

·       To promote the principles of good citizenship

·       To encourage appreciation, fun and understanding among all participants

·       To build good character through the examples set by coaches, managers and volunteers

·       To treat all participants fairly, regardless of ability.

Our Teams

·       Each CAL team is part of one of 11 clubs: CAL Knights, Chalmers, Fort Henry, Holy Name, Lady of Lourdes, Queen Street, Salvation Army, St. John's, St. Joseph's, St. Paul's, Storrington.

·       Clubs are associated with churches and/or communities in the Greater Kingston Area.

·       Most clubs have one team in each of five age divisions: novice (7&8), atom (9&10), peewee (11&12), bantam (13&14) and midget (15,16&17).

Our Family-Friendly Schedule

·       20 weeks from October through the weekend before school March Break.

·       Initiation Program players, 5-8 years old, have one 1-hour session every Saturday afternoon

·       Players novice through midget have 2 hours of ice time per week...one practice and one game.

·       Practices are at the same time and day each week for the season

·       Games are usually during the same period  (morning, afternoon or evening) each weekend

·       Our schedule is posted well in advance.

Our Season

·       The season starts with a round-robin, where each team in each age division plays every other team once.

·       In the New Year, each division is split into an A & B group and the playoffs begin. The split is based on standings, and allows teams to continue, playing other teams of similar ability.

·       The season culminates with "A" and "B" elimination playoffs which results in two Championship games per division.

·       CAL Day of Champions celebrates all of our teams so all teams play on the final weekend.

House League Tournaments

·       The CAL and the Fort Henry Hockey Club hosts the Kingston Causeway Classic house league tournament on December 27, 28, 29 and 30 each year.  The Tournament continues to grow both in size and popularity (registration is first come-first served).  New in 2010 is our first CAL Alumni Tournament being held in conjunction with the Kingston Causeway Classic, celebrating 60 years of House League Hockey in Kingston.es for CAL teams.

·       CAL house league teams may participate in up to two tournaments during the season, as long as they do not conflict with their regularly scheduled games.

Our rinks

·       In the fall of 2010, The Kingston Memorial Centre became the Church Athletic Leagues home rink.  Constantine Arena, located at C.F.B. Kingston is home rink for the Fort Henry teams.  Our  teams will also play games at the INVISTA Centre and at the Cataraqui/Kinsmen Arena.

·       We are pleased to have Kingston Memorial Centre as our home rink because it guarantees that CAL teams will have games every weekend without cancellation or relocation for other's tournaments and special events.

Player Development (PD) Program

·       The Player Development program compliments our house league with Rostered Select teams authorized by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

·       The Player Development program offers players additional skill development and a higher level of competition.

·       There is one PD team at each Division from novice through midget.

·       Players develop their skills with two additional hours of ice time each week: two games per month and three tournaments.
